The illustration depicts poliovirus. Polioviruses (green) are single-stranded RNA viruses belonging to the family Picornaviridae. They have a naked protein capsid with a dense central core. Thanks to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, wild polio was eradicated in Africa in 2020.
