The image shows desoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). DNA (blue) is the fundamental, double-stranded information storage (bio)molecule, that encodes information about a phenotype, in the form of so-called nucleotide sequences. These are made up of the bases thymine (blue), adenine (dark red), guanine (green), and cytosine (yellow). It is the starting point for the central dogma of biology, which can be furthermore described as the transition of DNA into RNA via transcription and the thus resulting gene expression, enabled through the translation of mRNA.
