Description
This image shows hemoglobin, the iron-containing protein of red blood cells. Hemoglobin comprises four heme groups that can each form reversible bonds with oxygen. Hemoglobin also binds and carries carbon dioxide in the blood. The presence of iron in hemoglobin is responsible for the distinctive red color of the blood.
