Description

This image depicts an abnormal stem cell caused by Polycythemia Vera (PV), a rare blood cancer characterized by the overproduction of normal red blood cells. Mutation of the JAK2 gene in the stem cells located in the bone marrow results in an enormous overproduction of cells. The increase of red blood cells can cause thickening of the blood, leading to issues such as clotting.
