Odysseus Grünert is a PhD student passionate about molecular biology and human genetics. His fresh perspective on scientific research and his calm and patient demeanour make him an invaluable member of our team.
Odysseus’s ability to visualise complex biomedical concepts allows him to play a key role in shaping our public relations efforts. In addition to his work on public relations, he supports our project managers during crucial project deadlines and meetings, helping to overcome bottlenecks and ensuring smooth progress. His talent for photography also adds value, capturing moments and visuals that complement our work. Furthermore, Odysseus is dedicated to mentoring disadvantaged students, offering guidance and support through a dedicated mentoring programme.
Although he officially began his biological studies in 2017, his passion for science has been a defining aspect of his life for over a decade—an interest likely influenced by his parents. His enthusiasm for biology led him to write an insightful essay on the genetic contributions of Neanderthals to modern humans, where he analysed current research in molecular paleogenetics.
After completing his bachelor's degree at the University of Vienna in 2022, Odysseus began his master's thesis with a research group at the ICR in London, UK. Upon returning to Vienna in 2023, he successfully completed his master's studies and is set to defend his thesis by the end of June 2024. In the autumn of 2024, Odysseus embarked on his PhD journey at the Institute for Molecular Health Sciences (ETH) in Zürich, Switzerland, where he continues to pursue his passion for academic research.
